Imagine you have paid your debt to society and it is time to be released from the
Nebraska State Prison. You will have $100 and the clothes on your back to restart your life outside. The Nebraska Synod of the ELCA has a prison ministry – Followers of Christ served by Pastor Bob Bryan. Pastor Bryan recently spoke to the Panhandle Cluster about the mission opportunities we have to support transitions back into society and helping to prevent recidivism statistics.
During the month of May we will collect new men’s underwear and socks to donate to Bridges to Hope which provides clothing and household items to those leaving prison. Pastor Ann and Laurie Schmidt plan to take Immanuel’s donations to Synod Assembly. If you would like to make a cash donation there are two other prison outreaches. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, assists inmates on work release from the Lincoln Community Correctional Center by serving a community meal – the FEAST. Rev. Bud Christenson (the original pastor of Followers of Christ) established Muriel’s Fund after the death of his wife, Muriel. This is a fund to sustain the ministries.
